Played by Brendan Gleeson, Sweety is a large man with a child-like innocence and mentality, who is forced to leave his carnival job and ends up in an Irish fishing village where illegal whiskey production and smuggling is the main behind-the-scenes product. He lands a job with the smugglers, mostly because he doesn't realize what's going on, and befriends a young boy, Conor. We soon learn that the town and the smugglers are run by the corrupt local detective, Detective Mannix Bone . Conor's father is in prison after being framed by Bone in order to get a better handle on his little empire. Conor's father is released from prison and Bone is not too happy to see him back in town. The little boy gets caught in Bone's web of greed and corruption, and Sweety becomes the avenging angel.
